Get Ready for the Interview like a pro!

Kind of interviewers you face while Job Hunting

Before you start your search and heads up for the interview-
  • List your priorities like you only want to be hired in MNC or start-ups or mid-level organization. Other priorities could be location, transport connectivity etc. This way you may target your territory only and it will be easy for you to search.
  • If it is not a walk-in, make sure you made a good communication over e-mail and phone call. For instance, confirming your presence for the interview after getting an e-mail(this is for walk-in as well if written) and mention the suitable time as per the slot. This will make a good first impression. Do not call them while finding location.
  • Do not go with your whole portfolio and rather take 2 copies of your resume- that is it. Rest of the documents you can submit if you are selected and needed for verification purpose.
  • Never go for an interview with an attitude of 'I need this job' but take it as a discussion part where both of you will see compatibility, best match and later on compare it with the rest or current organization.
  • Do not say yes immediately if been asked to join if you do not have notice period unless you are this much sure and impressed with the people and ambiance. In short, if this looks like your dream job otherwise not.

These points will surely give you some serious goals because they are real-time experiences of candidates -

1. Humble

If this is a walk-in and you see lots of people around, politeness would simply mean - they will be asking you questions and taking notes, later on, analyze and choose as per their priorities. If this is not a walk-in, chances are on your side. Recruiters have access to our profiles and they shortlist few profiles out of which you could be the one who got selected. So, here you got less competition.

But beware if the person is becoming too friendly and you do not reveal anything which you should not. For instance, while asking about your leaving from last organization, you need not start telling about the politics, cruel managers, and all those negative things. Meanwhile, you can say it but in a professional way. Do not vibe with the recruiter and instead keep parallel ways. This will surely show a strong approach from your side.

2. Neutral

'Ok! I have to recruit someone with this much of salary and this location.fine!' - this is what we call neutral guys. They do not bother comparing you to other candidates if you say yes to all the listed priorities they have been given by the employer. The interview session is just a formality, they can recruit you after seeing your resume and 5 minutes of telephonic conversation. The ball is in your court.

Kind of candidate will be an intern, fresher and someone with an entry level of experience. I am not talking about mass recruitment and off campus placements where there are 5-6 rounds and 15 candidates are chosen out of 500. Freshers who normally say yes to every damn agreement, I would like to give you a very important suggestion. If you like the company and think of the long run, show up your interest too by asking about your job responsibilities, probation period and about the team. The goal here is to let them know you are here to stay. It will surely help you in the learning process and opt the environment with ease.

3. Smart

You could confront smart individuals who can actually read your mind by asking simple questions. They will literally reveal your weak point from you like this and then put questions. If you lose confidence at this point in time, you will lose the game. There are tactics to break through it but do not use it because you cannot be offensive or make them offended. Do not play with words and try to be over smart. Just show your confidence and be optimistic.

I personally like these recruiters because they want to hire smart and active individuals and not just nagging ones. Pat yourself if you got selected.

4. Good listeners and yes they react
int_goodlisteners

These are the best of recruiters category because they not only ask but listen too. And yes they are constantly judging you and keep an eye on every word you say. So, you have to be a little bit extra careful in front of them. They are usually the ones who are finding a perfect fit for a particular kind of job. Let's take an instance like while telling them about your goals, they might be listening to you and try to strike up a conversation and go on telling you about the job description. The interview could be like an easy conversation with them because they are being transparent.

You will find it good and overwhelmed also but make sure you are not missing anything. I am not being negative but merely telling you things which you should be aware of. While telling you the job description, he might be giving you serious goals about your future and making sure of some learning as well. What could be negative here is you will be overloaded with work once boarded. And, work that is not even relevant to your skills.

5. The Bossy ones

They are very well aware of their requirements and looking up to you to impress them. This interview could be a tricky one because you need to analyze his mind on real-time and reply. Loads of questions are natural and the session could be longer(take it as a positive sign). He might be telling you some short stories about his success and do not ask any stupid question in between just to show off. Ask question once he is finished if you think it is worth, otherwise leave it. Pay attention and show it with your facial expressions. Do not give space to dead silence. You need to listen properly and if you are smart enough, you will get to know what he wants. You could make the decision on the spot depending on your compatibility with him.

6. Negative
int_negative

This could lead to roast and not an interview session. There could be reasons for it-
  • recruiter understood the fact that you are not the candidate he is looking for within 5 minutes and he starting asking you questions out of your league.
  • It is possible that you are capable of the job but recruiter pulls you down to the level he wants a candidate to be. You may think how dominant the organization would be. You might get selected here but the question is if you want to work at this place or not.

Recruiters are the first level of communication and thus play an important role in showing us a face(real or not) of the company. These were some kind of interviewers and the best possible advice I can give. I want you guys to make sure you do not end up with something not relevant and that is why my first point is to make priorities. This way it will be a little late but worth waiting.

Let me know your encounters as well.
